March 11, 2008, Sudbury, MA – Jones and Bartlett Publishers, LLC, (J&B) announced today the acquisition of Compact Clinicals, a leading medical publisher of psychiatric and mental health educational materials and assessment scales. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Founded by Dr. Melanie A. Dean in 1995, Compact Clinicals has developed a full range of highly effective diagnostic and treatment resources for medical professionals and pharmaceutical companies as well as for patients and families coping with mental disorders.
“Over the last 13 years, Compact Clinicals has been uniting science and creativity, to publish innovative, evidence-based resources, authored by internationally recognized experts, that help people live healthier and more productive lives,” offered Dr. Dean, who will be joining J&B as Publisher, Compact Clinicals. “I’m looking forward to teaming with J&B to expand our combined offering of professional resources and custom-designed assessment tools that help busy professionals diagnose and treat a broad range of psychiatric and mental health diseases and disorders.”
The product line acquired from Compact Clinicals represents exceptionally usable, highly readable medical publishing solutions for expert patient care. In particular, Compact Clinicals creates a variety of mental health books, assessment tools, patient education materials and branding solutions for pharmaceuticals in collaboration with medical experts and other key opinion leaders. Topics include Alzheimer’s Disease, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Depression in Adults, Metabolic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic and Acute Stress Disorder and Schizophrenia.
“I am pleased about the acquisition of Compact Clinicals and the opportunity to work with Dr. Dean, as this is a time of tremendous growth in the fields of psychiatry and mental health. The titles published by Compact Clinicals are a natural complement to J&B’s already outstanding list of professional resources in this field, and this acquisition is an important step in J&B’s future growth,” said Clayton E. Jones, Chief Executive Officer of J&B.
The acquisition of Compact Clinicals is the latest development in a series of initiatives that have quickly positioned J&B as a leader in medical publishing.
